The incunable collection was donated to the Medical Library by one of our founders, Dr. Topics include astrology, medicine, plague, anatomy, remedies, herbals and much more. ![]() The 44 incunables digitized in this project represent ones not found online anywhere. ![]() Many of the incunables display elements of the print and manuscript world, including marginalia, historiated initials, and some of the earliest printed depictions of the human body, often derived from manuscript illustrations. These incredibly rare incunables represent the earliest history of printing in Europe and the first examples of medical knowledge circulated in printed form. The Medical Historical Library, part of the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library, contains over 300 medical and scientific incunabula, which are books, broadsides, and pamphlets printed before 1501. The chapter closes with commentary from the authors and patient-oriented considerations for the topic at hand.The Cushing/Whitney Medical Library is pleased to announce that parts of our incunable collection are now available online! The effort to digitize these incunables and make them freely available worldwide was generously funded by the Arcadia Fund. Each chapter contains learning objectives and an introduction to the topic, followed by a case and questions. The book is designed to allow educators/students to choose chapters of interest as they feel suited, as each chapter is independent from the others. These topics include, but are not limited to, cross-cultural care, health literacy and disparities, infectious disease, health promotion and disease prevention, medication safety, structural racism, advocacy/policy analysis, chronic disease, women’s health, rural health, travel medicine and more. A total of 54 chapters are presented, covering a broad array of topics relevant to pharmacy applications of public health. This casebook, now in its second edition, is a collaboration of over 90 individuals with expertise and training in public health pharmacy. Clinical correlates and additional application of content is intended to be provided in the classroom experience. The text is meant to provide the essential information from these content areas in a concise format that would allow learner preparation to engage in an active classroom. This USMLE-aligned text is designed for a course in first-year undergraduate medical course that is delivered typically before students start to explore systems physiology and pathophysiology.
